Are Porcelain Veneers Worth it?
Yes! Porcelain veneers are one of the relatively inexpensive cosmetic dentistry options that can drastically change the appearance of your smile. The porcelain veneers process begins with an initial appointment with Dr. Cohlmia and his team. After discussing the health of your teeth and the goals for your teeth, our Family Dental Center team will develop a comprehensive care plan. During the dental veneers procedure, Dr. Cohlmia will etch the enamel off of the top surface of your teeth that will receive veneers. Typically, Dr. Cohlmia places between 4 and 6 veneers on each set of teeth. Once the surface of the teeth are rough with traction, an adhesive is placed to the tooth along with the veneer. Lastly Dr. Cohlmia may use composite resin to form the tooth and fill in any gaps. This is why we recommend porcelain veneers for cracked teeth or porcelain veneers for gaps. After the appointment, you will leave our OKC office with a beautiful, healthy smile in a fraction of the cost of a dental implant, bridge, or crown supported dental restoration.
Can Patients Get Porcelain Veneers With Gum Disease?
First, gum disease, also called periodontal disease, is a serious condition that can lead to health complications throughout your heart including endocarditis or pericarditis, inflammation, and infections in the lining around the heart. Before considering any cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening or porcelain veneers, you should manage the symptoms and risks of your gum disease. This means, actively working to minimize inflammation and swelling through antibiotics and regular periodontal cleanings. However, this does not mean you cannot get porcelain veneers with gum disease. You may be able to get porcelain veneers with gum disease in OKC if your gum disease is under control and Dr. Cohlmia is comfortable with performing a cosmetic treatment on you. Remember, you should develop a good oral health foundation before pursuing cosmetic dentistry.
